Exploring the ice and snow

The children in Reception have been venturing outside to explore the ice and snow in our Early Years garden! We had to put our coats and wellington boots on to keep warm and dry. We noticed that the more we compacted the snow got, the more slippery it became! Elsewhere in the garden, the children managed to break away the ice on their outside equipment to free the toys. We found a large slab of ice on the top of one of the sand trays, and the children experimented with different ways of breaking it apart including dropping it, hitting it and even melting it. Igloos and 'snow tents' were even being built!
